Christ is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Jan Richardson writes In The Sanctuary of Women:
"The fact that we live in the 21st century
when hunger, homelessness and a host of other injustices continue to inflict deep suffering around the world does not diminish –and is not separate from – our need for beauty and the sustenance and hope that it provides…
It’s not just that art should come alongside our work for justice, but that they are part of the same impulse toward hope, healing and wholeness."
With this in our minds and hearts, at the Easter Vigil, we reflected on several Scripture passages that were paired with modern piece of work. Each reflects reveal God’s faithfulness through the millennia.
We responded to each set with a prayer-song: Make Something Beautiful by Ben Rector
Please let me make something beautiful
A thing that reminds us there's good in the world
A thing that reminds us there's still something out there worth fighting for…
Ooh-ooh, let it be something wonderful
Ooh-ooh, let it be something beautiful
Please let me make something beautiful
A thing that reminds us there's good in the world

As we were reminded tonight,
God made the world and each of us
then chose to become fully human
That took some creativity - wouldn’t you say?
Creativity is a gift that is in our spiritual DNA.
Creativity is a gift that God wove into the fiber of our beings
This Easter, let’s prayerfully ponder:
How are we being called to activate the gift of creativity?
How is God inviting us to co-create?
How can we make the world a better place through cultivating beauty?
How can we help heal the world by being creative?
There are so many many ways
Maybe we engage creative problem-solving
or we make things with our hands
or we make music
or create visual arts
perhaps we use creativity to speak with love and hope
or emit peace – especially when negative energy abounds
The creative options are endless.
Like all spiritual gifts,
we can ask God for an outpouring of this grace of creativity.
It’s up to us to practice AND
to learn from more experience people
and most importantly -
to share what we’ve created
as proudly as a kindergartener shares their finger painting
let’s share...
et’s pray…
Let’s sing our refrain one more time. let this be our Easter prayer…
Please let me make something beautiful
A thing that reminds us there's good in the world
A thing that reminds us there's still something out there worth fighting for…
Ooh-ooh, let it be something wonderful
Ooh-ooh, let it be something beautiful
Please let me make something beautiful
A thing that reminds us there's good in the world
A Blessing from Jan Richardson
That we may make
of the sacred text
a table in the wilderness
and a feast for the world.
